MDM Trouble Report for 2013 Apr 23 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Jenna M. Nugent (U. of Oklahoma) Instrument: OSMOS, R4K Problem(s) Encountered: Last night I had trouble getting the guide star in focus. I attributed it to gusty winds. However, tonight I had the same problem and it was not very windy. I tried focusing out for a while then in for some time. Focusing out always made it worse, whereas focusing in never improved the focus much. After trying this for a while, I realized the guider's pointing was off. I tried setting it to origin, and that helped at least getting the guide star more in the FOV. The focus was somewhat better after this. The pointing issue could be due to my script, which dithers after readout of the last image. Sometimes during readout of the last image in a field, I would stop tracking with the guider. Perhaps the guider dithering after this made it lose pointing. The weather screen froze, but still updated the wind speed and a few other things. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2013 Apr 24 [6:36:07]
