MDM Trouble Report for 2013 Nov 11 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Holoien (Ohio State) Instrument: OSMOS-R4K Problem(s) Encountered: After taking sky flats and doing a pointing test around 18:15, I focused the telescope for various filters. Upon attempting to go to my first target, I discovered my pointing was off, most likely due to an error updating the RA and Dec after adjusting the pointing earlier. Followed the instructions from the Observing Guide to restore the telescope to zenith and reset pointing from there. The paddle in the dome did not seem to be working, so I used the xtcs and the tiltmeters in the control room to get close to zenith, then adjusted with the paddle there. Once I successfully restored the telescope to zenith, I was able to restore pointing and had no more issues for the rest of the night. Additional minor issues: - It was windy all night, with wind mostly between 10 and 15 mph. Between 4:00 and 6:00 am, wind picked up quite a bit, reaching ~25 mph and affecting seeing somewhat, but still wasn't a major issue. - Saw the saturated icicle pattern intermittently on images throughout the night. Used the snapclean script to try to clear out the CCD with some success, but the pattern kept coming back. Was particularly noticeable when trying to take sky flats. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2013 Nov 12 [7:07:04]
