MDM Trouble Report for 2014 Feb 07 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Coker (Ohio State) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: While trying to observe Akn 120 and NGC 2617, the telescope would not stay put. Instead, the pointing oscillated north- south with an amplitude of at least 0.5', and occasionally up to 1' or more. At the time I attempted to observe these objects (~3:30 UT for Akn 120 and ~7:30 UT for NGC 2617), they were within an hour of the meridian, and both are located near the celestial equator. The nodding started almost immediately after slewing to Akn 120, but took over 45 minutes to present when I observed NGC 2617 later in the night. Whether guiding was going or not did not seem to have an effect. Winds were light at the time the problem occurred, and clouds were limited to thin cirrus/haze. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Feb 8 [6:40:54]
