MDM Trouble Report for 2014 Feb 26 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Holoien, Penny (Ohio State) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: When we woke up, the network was completely down -- we had no internet access, and the computers in the control room couldn't talk to the telescope or each other. After talking with Eric Galayda, we checked the main router in the computer room and found that it had no power. Following the power cord led to a UPS unit that was emitting a high-pitched screeching noise and not functioning. We turned off the bad UPS and connected the router and the other device in the UPS to a nearby wall socket using a surge protector from the control room. The router powered back on and everything worked after that, after some restarting of various software. The position of the surge protector is somewhat precarious and someone should probably check the setup. Also the internet connection speed has been slower since the router was restarted, but is otherwise working. During observations of a target at airmass ~1.3 around midnight, the telescope again nodded in the N-S direction during exposure. We had to move on to another target because we couldn't figure out the cause of this. All our other targets are observed at higher airmass and none have had this problem, so we speculate it might have something to do with that. We haven't been able to observe this target fully for the past 2 nights, but otherwise this issue hasn't cost us any time. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Feb 27 [6:23:51]
