MDM Trouble Report for 2014 Feb 10 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Halpern (Columbia) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: Everything seems to be okay now. But at around 1:45am there was some kind of glitch that caused a small jump of the telescope, corrupted the TCS computer, and stopped every encoder from reading, including telescope coordinates and dome azimuth. It seemed to be a power glitch, as my computer monitors blinked off for a couple of seconds. But the UPS should have handled that, so I'm not sure what happened. I had to turn off auto dome to get the dome to stop marching around, one degree at a time. I couldn't shut down the TCS program normally, because the shutdown prompt didn't respond to the mouse click. I had to power cycle the TCS computer, which may mean that the TCS data was left an incorrect state when the program came back up. I had to do some scrambling to prevent the telescope from running away. The dome either oscillated or stepped around until the dome error started reading accurately. The telescope focus motor had moved way out of focus, and the new encoder reading is about 145 lower than before. Recovering the pointing was the easy part, but all of this lost about 2 hours. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Feb 11 [4:54:44] NOTE: This trouble report replaces the previous report for 2014 Feb 10
