MDM Trouble Report for 2015 Sep 22 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Edmund Hodges-Kluck, Vivienne Baldassare, Adi Foord (Michigan ) Instrument: Templeton Problem(s) Encountered: There was lightning earlier in the day so we followed the lightning shutdown procedures. When we restarted the telescope to try and observe, the telescope would not slew and would turn tracking off after it failed. When we tried to home the HA and Dec axes, the HA worked but the Dec failed. We found a record of a similar problem in http://mdm.kpno.noao.edu/index/Solutions/Entries/2015/3/26_Entry_1.html and basically followed their procedure. The declination motor in the telescope housing said 'Err', so we cycled the power using the knife switch, and it returned to 'r 0'. We then did 'telescope stop' and 'telescope start' and re-initialized the TCS GUI and the MIS. This solved the problem, although the telescope's tilt sensors were not consistent with it being at zenith. However, after pointing at an object and moving back to zenith, the tilt sensors had about the right numbers. Unlike the prior trouble report, we did not need to cycle power to the TCS itself. During the time the telescope would not slew, it only gave an error that the tracking rate was not correct, and it would turn tracking off. However, after we attempted to home the Dec axis it continually gave an error that said the mc_dec could not be homed. This is how we learned the declination motor had an issue. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2015 Sep 23 [6:13:41]
