MDM Trouble Report for 2015 Apr 14 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Ryan Chornock (Ohio University) Instrument: MarkIII/Echelle Problem(s) Encountered: I encountered two issues on the 2.4m tonight: 1) This is my first time using Mark III, so maybe it is supposed to be like this (but I doubt it): I was surprised to find out that the slit in the middle of the Andor slit-viewing camera was not the one selected and sending light to the detector. As in: when I look at the slit-viewing camera, there is a slit right in the middle of the field of view (slight tilt CW from straight up). I wrongly assumed that was the correct slit to use. Instead, the slit to the left, which is only visible in the upper left corner of the image, was the one sending light to the instrument. I lost a bit of time during twilight as I tried to figure out why the star perfectly centered on the slit viewing camera wasn't showing up as a trace on my CCD. Once I figured out what was going on, I just worked around it all night, but it is a little annoying to have my targets in the corner of the field of view. 2) The dome didn't home correctly in the morning so I had to climb up and use the emergency hand paddle to close the shutter. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2015 Apr 15 [6:45:45]
