MDM Trouble Report for 2015 Dec 28 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Matthew Penny (Ohio State University) Instrument: OSMOS/R4K Problem(s) Encountered: Focus: Spent a long time early in the night trying to achieve a satisfactory focus. I found it impossible to get a PSF that did not have significant skew or internal stucture, i.e. looking like a comet on one side of focus. I checked the mirror supports but each had nominal values. I played around with the camfoc value without realizing it might be relative and not absolute, which may be the cause. Alternatively, it could be the cold weather. Dewar: At end of night, the dewar seemed to fill far too quickly. LN2 almost immediately flowed through the pipe at right angles to the actual dewar rod, and it only took about a minute for significant spray to issue from the dewar. Tried holding the pipe up as best as possible, using both the platform raise trick and my own hands, but did not seem to make a differemce. Despite this, I kept the pipe in for about 5 minutes in case. I might not be used to the instrument however, and this behavior might be normal. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2015 Dec 29 [5:40:50] NOTE: This trouble report replaces the previous report for 2015 Dec 28
