MDM Trouble Report for 2015 Oct 24 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): John Thorstensen (Dartmouth) Instrument: modspec+echelle CCD Problem(s) Encountered: Two items: 1) The AC computer is saying Coils seem to be frozen! Defrosting to 13 C. Coil heater ON. but the coils aren't frozen as far as I can tell -- I opened the hatch and looked at 'em -- and the A/C cooling coils are at 9 C, close to ambient. Hopefully I'll get some cooling today anyway. 2) When I was very tired in the morning, I sent the telescope toward one of my evening targets -- or at least that's what I think happened -- and the telescope went near the meridian and then kept going north through the pole. At that point I noticed that it was going to a weird HA like 13, so I stopped when it was at maybe 3 airmasses in the north. I hand slewed the dec in the south direction -- which was really north, then south after it got past the pole -- and went to a legitimate target without any trouble. The moral is to check the Next Object line on the TCS monitor before starting a slew. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2015 Oct 25 [6:38:41]
