MDM Trouble Report for 2015 Sep 05 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): R. M. Wagner (OSU) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: Three problems tonight. We continue to have problems with the disperser indexing with OSMOS. It behaved the same way Stephan described earlier in the day. Nothing would reset it. When I got here it thought it was in position 1, the blue VPH. I took a spectrum with a slit in and found that this could not be correct. It had to be an open position. So I guessed first that it was position 2 and commanded >disper reset 2 . After that it seemed to work find between positions 1 and 2. But once I went to position 3 it failed again. Toggling between positions 1 and 2 works ok so far. I fixed my acquisition script to assume the open position is slot 2. The 2nd problem is that the x and y guider stages do not move. Commanding the unit to go to the field center resulted in an immediate reset to 0 0. Putting in a x position like 7000 in the x field did exactly the same thing. I looked at the telescope and the documentation but could not find a smoking gun as to the possible cause that could allow me to continue. This effectively closed me down. The third problem is that the telescope collimation is still not optimal. In pupil images obtained at the beginning of the night, the secondary is noticeably offset from the center of the image. We might be able to re-center it with iterative direct images but I would probably need help up here with the cell adjustments. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2015 Sep 6 [1:19:16]
