MDM Trouble Report for 2015 Sep 13 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Joel C Zinn (OSU) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: Received similar errors in prospero as encountered previously in this run. The error message looks something like this : IC> WARNING: Telescope controller not responding. ACQTAG=OSMOS.19800104183411 with the final number varying. Upon rebooting from an afternoon lightning shut down, prospero could not communicate properly with IC, showing unknown statuses for filters, disperser, filters, camfoc, and colfoc. This when IC was reported in the GUI to be functional. Fixed this problem by following a procedure that had been documented in a previous trouble report solution, which is to power cycle the IE located on the telescope, and then enter 'startup' on prospero. Eric's suggestion -- which is also to be found in the troubleshooting archives -- to use 'call ossetup' did not work. Still, it seems a prospero-IC communications error persisted in some capacity, because of the above error that would be reported frequently throughout the night. However, the instrument filters and disperser and slits could be changed through prospero, so IC was not rebooted. Still, all the image headers did not contain any IC information, and the TCSLINK field read 'Down', even though the prospero GUI said it was fine. Also presumably because of restarting from shutdown, the following error was issued from prospero when trying to change the camera focus : Setting camfoc... Error: Command returned error ERROR: CAMFOC CAMFOC=PWRFLR CAMFOC has been power cycled and must be reset to initialize Error setting the CamFocus Programming Error: invalid error code: -99 CAMFOC request aborted with errors. Execution error in Prospero command. Command: camfoc 5550 Problem was solved with a 'camfocus reset' command. At one point, a rather grating noise was issued from the instrument when changing the disperser. Upon subsequently taking a spectrum, it was clear the disperser did not deploy properly. When trying to change the disperser to 'open' with the 'disp' prospero command, received the following error : Setting disperser... Error: Command returned error ERROR: DISPERSER DISPERSER=FAULT Mechanism out-of-position, in-position sensor not asserted. Reset DISPERSER to recover Error setting the Disperser Programming Error: invalid error code: -99 DISPERSER request aborted with errors. Execution error in Prospero command. Command: disp 1 The solution was indeed to call 'disp reset'. No further problems with the disperser occurred. The prospero GUI went blank over the course of the night. Solution was to call 'status clear'. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2015 Sep 14 [6:46:02]
