MDM Trouble Report for 2016 Dec 05 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Douglas, Nunez (Columbia Unviersity) Instrument: ModSpec/Nellie Problem(s) Encountered: This time, the problem really does appear to be the ModSpec shutter. We were able to take calibration data, but once we tried to go on sky an hour or so later, we couldn't get any signal. We troubleshot using Jules's advice from last night - we could see stars on the slit-viewer, we tried every combination of the open shutter checkbox and the open/close shutter button in OWL, we could hear the shutter clicking, we restarted OWL. We then tried power-cycling the shutter control box, which also didn't work. On Eric's advice, we shone a light into the ModSpec eyepiece and took a quick exposure - this gave us signal, indicating that Nellie was still OK. We then unplugged the shutter control from the detector electronics box and then switched the shutter to open manually. This still didn't work, and Eric said it would be best to wait until he could take the shutter out and investigate further during the day, so we closed down. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Dec 6 [4:00:13]
