MDM Trouble Report for 2016 Dec 12 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Jessica Klusmeyer (MDM) Instrument: OSMOSB4k Problem(s) Encountered: Moved to new target and could not find guide star, thought it was clouds walked outside noticed dome seemed wrong, inside saw that dome was off about 30 degrees. Have had this issue before, went to dome encoder box inside dome and reset connections. Noticed the encoder box was not in the plastic container on wall. Left encoder box out (on wood platform) for the night in case the problem occurred again, it did not! Put in wall case after closing the dome. Dome went to correct home position Same issue as previous runs with guide probe not going to correct location. Target NGC4395 first attempt with rotator -80, and guider angle -10. Guide Star field was very sparse and was not able to use same trick as last time by moving guider to different star locations, noting where a star was located as the guider moved and then moving back to that location to find a guide star. Had to instead decrease angle to -60 which allowed guider to find a guide star no problem. Not sure if there is a real solution or if changing angle is the easier fix. lost 20 min or so trying the guider trick that had worked before giving up and changing the angle. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Dec 13 [7:25:33]
