MDM Trouble Report for 2017 Apr 27 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Tom Holoien (Ohio State) Instrument: OSMOSB4k Problem(s) Encountered: Ran into two issues tonight. First, early in the evening the guider was not moving in the X direction when sent commands, either from JSkyCalc or from the MIS GUI. I was able to fix this issue by power cycling the MIS controller in the computer room and re-initializing the MIS GUI. Later in the evening the drifting problem seen yesterday returned. The telescope would be tracking a target and suddenly would start drifting in RA. (I could see the RA changing on the TCS monitor.) This happened both while guiding and when not guiding. RA was always increasing. Sometimes it would just move a little bit and then stop for a while, but eventually it would just start drifting until a new movement command was sent to the telescope. I was able to do some imaging with 2-3 minute exposures, but when I tried to do spectra or longer exposures it would start drifting before the exposure was complete. This happened with the last 4-5 targets I attempted, and drifting typically started anywhere from 5-30 minutes after moving the telescope to the target. Since I was unable to find a target that the telescope wouldn't drift away from, with about an hour left until twilight and clouds getting thicker, I decided to close up for the night. Probably unrelated, but I noticed later in the evening that the TCS monitor had the message Moving with AutoDome Off! , though Auto Dome was on and the dome seemed to be tracking the telescope fine. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Apr 28 [3:48:19]
