MDM Trouble Report for 2017 Nov 02 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Douglas, Nunez, Halpern (Columbia) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: just before 10pm local/ 0500 UT / just after 00 LST, the telescope ran away. We were at RA~21, and next object coordinates were at RA~01. The telescope ran away WEST, even though the object was east of where it was, and we noticed when it approached the West limit at RA~18 and Airmass~4. It seemed like the telescope knew where it was, but just went the wrong direction. We used the hand paddle to slew back near zenith, and then sent the telescope to zenith using the TCS; it did this without complaint. However, after this we couldn't reset the TCS display equinox using the Misc. Settings menu, and we couldn't send coordinates from JSkyCalc. We hit the TCS stop button, and this seemed to reset everything. The telescope started tracking again. We sent coordinates for the same object we were trying to reach initially, and this time the telescope cooperated and went there. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Nov 3 [10:21:43]
