MDM Trouble Report for 2017 Sep 04 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Gilligan (Dartouth) Instrument: TIFKAM Problem(s) Encountered: In the early evening I had to perform a lightning shutdown. When I started to restart everything following the instructions, Prospero would fail on the startup command copied below. I know this error was of my own making, but I figured it was good to save for posterity. pr> STARTUP Connecting to ISIS... ...Prospero client started on network port 6606 Error: Requested Operation Timed Out Suggestions: 1) Is the IC up and the instrument server (ISIS) running? 2) Is disk full, such that ISIS cannot open its log file? 3) Is ISIS sending random garbage? Check the isis logs for out-of-synch messages; you may need to restart isis. STARTUP failed... Execution error in Prospero command. Command: STARTUP I rebooted the IC and quit prospero numerous times to no avail. I then realized I should restart ISIS since I had shut off and restarted Hilter. I then got the error: pr> startup Connecting to ISIS... ...Prospero client started on network port 6606 ...connected to ISIS server IS IS> ERROR: No Route to Destination Host IC - host is unknown/unlisted ^C Command interrupted by a Ctrl-C *** ERROR: Cannot get config status from the IC Suggestions: 1) Verify that the system is up and running. 2) Check the .prospero.ini file and see if ICHOST is valid for this system. STARTUP failed... Execution error in Prospero command. Command: startup I ran the startup again. Then I got the error: pr> startup Connecting to ISIS... ...Prospero client started on network port 6606 ...connected to ISIS server IS Loading the TIFKAM instrument initialization file... Getting Configuration Host (IC) info... Getting IC status... Getting Instrument Status... *** ERROR: caliban expected but missing... Check to see that caliban is running and ready Loaded Filter Table 1 of 2... Loaded Filter Table 2 of 2... Loaded Slit Table... Loaded Camera Table... *** ERROR: the Caliban & IC disks are not synched. Image storage will not work until this is done. Make sure Caliban is up and running (restart Caliban or type >IC PING in the Caliban window) and try again STARTUP failed... Execution error in Prospero command. Command: startup I did the >IC PING command and it worked. I also had a weird issue with the Coords->TCS Next Obj. button. I was in the middle of doing one observation when I hit that button to get my next object ready. When I did this, the telescope moved to my next object's RA but did not change the Dec. It kept the same Dec as the object I was in the middle of observing. I'm not sure if this is a known issue/feature, but it does not seem intuitive to me that it would do this. I don't think this is the first time it's happened to me, but it's the first time I can quantify what was going on. The telescope seems to be working fine as long as I don't do that. I believe this is how I slewed to a hard limit a few nights ago. Then, the telescope didn't display the hard limit error. Maybe this is the reason? ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Sep 5 [5:53:20]
