MDM Trouble Report for 2019 Jul 27 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Clarkson, Fiolka, Boyd (UM-Dearborn) Instrument: ANDOR Problem(s) Encountered: Problem: MIS guider probe CCW limit switch is not stopping the probe motor when it reaches (x,y) = (0,0). The probe motor runs continuously and audibly. This problem only seems to occur when using 'Preset --> Origin' in xmis2 (a process that also seems to be activated on xmis2 initialization, e.g. during the restart process from lightning shutdown). On returning the probe to (0,0), the message 'Warning - not at Y CCW limit' appears in the xmis2 window. Spoke with Eric G, it sounds like the Y limit sensor might be faulty. Solution: If the guide probe motor is audibly running continuously, hit 'stop' in xmis2. To return the probe to the origin, command it to (x,y) = (0,0) in xmis2 rather than using 'Preset -->Origin.' Until the Y limit sensor can be fixed, we were advised not to shut down the MIS as part of the lightning shutdown procedure. This problem did not impact our program. Commanding to the same guide probe co-ordinates as previous nights brought the probe to within about 200 pixels of the same guide star location we used in previous nights. We were able to guide without problems, and the probe moved fine. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2019 Jul 28 [6:12:43]
