MDM Trouble Report for 2019 Oct 11 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Rupert (MDM) Instrument: OSMOS/B Problem(s) Encountered: Had issues with pointing throughout the week, but tonight it was especially bad, so I decided to log it. Basically I would have to set the coordinate offset several times a night. Even after just one moderately big slew I would have to hunt a little bit for the guide star. Almost always the error was in RA. Periodically the slew rate in RA would drop considerably when using the hand paddle as well. Decided tonight to see if the cam on the RA drive needed to be loosened, as I noticed when slewing with the hand paddle it pulled more amperage according to the TCS chassis when slewing in RA than DEC (I don't know if this is normal or not). I did loosen it a little, but that did not seem to solve the issue. At this time the pointing was horribly bad. It took maybe 10-15 minutes and several bright stars to set it right again. I was able to continue after this as I had been all week. Ultimately it's workable, but far from ideal. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2019 Oct 12 [5:18:19]
