MDM Trouble Report for 2020 Feb 18 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Yuming Fu (PKU) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: I lost pointing of the telescope and could not identify any object soon after the obsevation began. I changed a few targets but still failed. Then I attempted to zero the telescope according to Edmund's MDM 1.3m manual. I used the home button in the TCS panel to home the telescope (after) and got error: error where m_ha not homed . And telescope got stuck while tracking the standard star G191B2B. This error was solved after I homed ha axis and dec axis separately. Later I followed the command for zero telescope from the mcgraw checklist (http://mdm.kpno.noao.edu/mcgraw-checklist.html). While it worked at last, I could not continue the obsevation due to the clouds. Dome closed at 04:15. The checklist turned out to be very important. And I might have avoided these troubles if I had followed it carefully. (Check the pointing/position of the telescope before the observation.) Eric's comment: Once homing the telescope axes, you need to verify that you are at zenith (homing doesn’t necessarily leave you at zenith!) by comparing the tilt sensor values relative to the post-it note seen in the image of the tilt sensors (this should be open in the web browser). Values should be around -003 (E/W) and -008 (N/S) at zenith. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2020 Feb 21 [6:50:26]
