MDM Trouble Report for 2023 Dec 07 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): John Thorstensen et al. (Dartmouth) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: The telescope monitor in the dome isn't working, apparently. This makes it diffucult to set the rotator accurately. Prospero froze in the middle of an exposure (of a focus sequence). I had to delete the window, and then it's not obvious how to restart. Eventually I found it in the Applications menu, but it had been so long since I had to restart Prospero that I'd forgotten that. My first instinct was to type prospero , which gave an unhelpful error that it was not found (in the path). I took it on myself to write a tiny script that runs when you type prospero that simply tells the user where to look for it. That may help in the future. I had some trouble finding an object far to the west with the instrument rotated -- eventually just gave up. Pointing far to the north was also off pretty far; it may be time to figure out a new pointing model. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2023 Dec 8 [7:14:09]
