MDM Trouble Report for 2023 Sep 12 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): John Thorstensen (Dartmouth) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: Notice that I was blindsided by fog because the humidity sensor was evidently reading far too low. We really need a reliable humidity gauge. Also, I've been noticing that the 2.4m occasionally slips by about 10 arcsec in ra while tracking, enough to lose the guide star. This seems to happen more in the north, but I've been working north a lot this run. I have not noticed if this shows up in the encoder position; it will likely be hard to diagnose unless there's some obvious balance problem or something. Finally, the pointing is badly off in the far north. I think the pointing model needs to be refreshed. The symptom is that the telescope has to be pushed east as much as 30 seconds of time to find the object. That's quite a bit! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2023 Sep 13 [4:55:01]
