MDM Trouble Report for 2024 Dec 02

Problem(s) Encountered:
The very first target of the night was a standard star (BD +28 4211)
at +28 degrees, and the telescope refused to settle -- it 
oscillated in dec maybe a few arcminutes, hunting for the 
target.  While it was doing this the dec readout was frozen --
it wasn't following the telescope. I stopped the set and tried to
move it with the paddle, with the same result - no dec readout. 
We called Eric and we worked through things, but he was flummoxed
also. 

We skipped that standard and continued through the night - the 
problem never recurred, but it was reproducible for that one 
star.  One hypothesis is that there is somehow a bad section on
the dec Renishaw encoder.  

The other problem appears less complex -- the rotator won't 
rotate. Could there be a lockout switch somewhere that I've 
forgotten?
