MDM Trouble Report for 2025 Aug 17 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Luis Salazar Manzano, Ed lin (Michigan) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: We parked the telescope and closed the dome due to threatening clouds around 9 pm. When the conditions started to improve by 1:30 am, we reopen the dome but we could not open the mirror covers. We think that the west petal got stucked. We tried many of the alternatives suggested in past trouble reports and the guides: (1) using the switch in the tcs control room, (2) moving the telescope to try to help the petal with gravity, (3) turning the valve inside the dome from controller to cylinder, but none of that worked. As we could not reopen the mirror cover, we lost the remaining of the night. As we thought that we would resume observations after the clouds, we did not send the rotator to park position when we closed the mirror petals. As, we could not reopen the petal, and it is not advised to rotate the instrument with the mirror covers closed, we left the rotator as it is (-80.8) and we will inform that it needs to be sent back once the mirror cover issue is solved. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2025 Aug 18 [4:38:06]
