While MDM and KPNO as a whole continue to remain technically closed to visitors, it is becoming more and more likely that those with time scheduled at MDM can gain access to MDM grounds as long as an exemption is granted by NOIRLab personnel.  To discuss gaining exemption status, please contact the Site Manager.  Of course, it is also up to the potential observer to check on travel restrictions imposed by their parent institution prior to making any plans to travel to MDM.  If travel is not possible, 1.3m observations can still be performed remotely and 2.4m observations can be added to the queue via request to the queue observer.

If an observer/observers is/are permitted to travel to MDM, they would be required to follow standard COVID-19 protocols. This includes, but is not limited to the use of a face mask and practicing social distancing.  There is also greater likelihood that interaction with MDM staff would be on a limited basis.
